Lynda Belle Title Available During “Read An Ebook” Week at Smashwords

Hiya! Lynda here. Just letting you know I’m still here. 2024 was a crazy, overwhelming year for me. I seem to have let it slip by, with a book or two running around in my brain and not getting it down on paper. I am really trying to push myself to finish the “For The Women of Rome” series. I think I might have a way to finish what I’ve been working on. It is started, but how to wrap up the series has eluted me. I think I might have an answer now. Just got to get butt in chair and get it done. To when that will happen, all I can say is soon. Hopefully. But I have been focusing a lot on the collab with Marilyn Vix, that some of my own work has slipped. For that, I apologize. But I am trying to rev myself up again. Any support you lend me in your comments is very appreciated. So thank you.

I’m getting back in the saddle, and working on projects. Just hang in there with me. Hopefully, I’ll have a new release soon. Meanwhile, please enjoy this free deal going on at Smashwords right now. From March 2 through March 8, I’ve put one of my stand alone shorts on special as a free download. It’s part of the “Read An Ebook” deals week at Smashwords. Started to help promote ebooks, it’s become kind of a traditional promo in the Indie author community. Smashwords has helped so many of us get recognized and allowed us to sell our ebooks in this new world of digital publishing. If you have it already, thank you for the support. If not, check it out below. And please enjoy my digital catalog as I work this year to add to it. If anything, it will feel good to finally finish the Roman Erotic Series. It’s been a fun one to write.

Until next time, get out there and read. Art can be healing.

Update: From the downloads of this promo, it’s really been so supporting and motivating. I have to add that I have been feeling more balanced and stable financially. So, I’ve been able to take up the pen again, and get back into some writing projects. I have dived back into finishing “For the Women of Rome III”, the last in the series. I now have it outlined and figured the plot. I am over half way writing it. I did start this a few years back, but it fell by the wayside. It’s nice to be at it again, and seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. I will let you all know when the first draft is done and off to the editor. I am really hoping to have it done in a month or two. When I finish a series, I can put it into an Omnibus edition and even do a print edition of the whole series. So, wish me luck! I am looking at 2025 as a positive road to writing and getting you the end of the Erotic Roman Series. You won’t be disappointed! It’s super hot! I can’t wait to bring it to you soon.

End of 2023 Reflection and Gift For Readers

So, another year, another time to celebrate just being able to have the gift to write. It’s been a bit of a tough year for myself. I’ve had to deal with some personal issues, and put aside writing for a time. Before I knew it, a year has gone by while I’ve been dealing with all sorts of things. I literally broke my ankle in April, got Covid-19 in July, and then worked the Renaissance Faire nearby. Poof. Year gone. But also, I lost a very good friend in June, that gave me the chance to say good-bye to her before she passed. Like I said. Lots of personal issues, and sometimes as a writer, life sweeps you up and takes you away from the writing path. But it doesn’t mean I haven’t forgotten about my fans. My readers. You.

I’ve been adding bit by bit to the final story of the Roman Erotic Tales. Scene by scene, it is filling out to complete the series. I also worked with Marilyn Vix to finish a omnibus edition of our Thankful In Vegas series. If you’d like a spicy gambler romance in Vegas, please consider a purchase. It is a great contemporary read for anyone that likes a bit of action and mysterious secrets. I enjoyed working with Marilyn on it, and I don’t know, maybe we’ll do another collaboration soon.

Meanwhile, I’ve set up a free promo on Smashwords for my Holiday short story that is popular at this time of year. If you want to get into the Holiday spirit, it’s a great hook-up erotic story. I had fun writing it back when I had my mojo going. SO, please, enjoy a gift from me for this Holiday season.

I’m looking forward to getting back into more writing next year. It just turns out 2023 was not a year that I could really produce what I wanted to. Life happens. But with my ankle now mended, and hopefully, more of a safer and less flood filled winter, I’ll be able to get back into the swing of writing again in the next few months. Of course, I’ll keep you updated through my blog.

Thank you again for sticking with me. I write for your pleasure, and good things always come to those who wait. 😉 Wait, that sounds like a great title for my next story. Hmmm….

Happy Holidays!

CockyGate Update: It’s Over! Settlement Reached in Lawsuit!

roostercockygateToday, it was just announced on Twitter that the lawsuit between Faleena Hopkins and the Cocktales Anthology group of authors (Cocky Collective), Jennifer Watson, Tara Crescent, and Kevin Kneupper have been dropped and the trademark enforcement surrendered. Yes, all of this fight ended up in court, with Faleena Hopkins suing a large group of defendants, and it was announced today it is over!

View the tweet announcement here!

But why let this get this out of hand? I’ve read a lot on both sides of the issue. Everyone was fighting for what they thought was right. Faleena Hopkins was fighting to preserve her brand and the group of other Indie authors, were fighting to preserve their right to use the word “Cocky”. I’m not surprised it all ended up in the courts, because that’s how things can get when you’re doing business. I guess, that is something to keep in mind while being an Indie or self-published author. Research what you are doing. Believe in yourself, and fight for what you believe in.

Whether this is a good win or bad loss? I think it really deserves a look at the overall picture. I’ve seen this written up as a lot of “romance writers” having a cat fight. I’ve seen it demeaned into something of silly importance. But as it has been going on, it was pretty obvious how it could be applied to all genres, copywriting of words and series names to the benefit of the trademark holder. I think looking at the big picture was the best way to approach it, and belittling the significance has been the work of people that don’t understand the romance industry or how Indie publishing works. It was an easy way to take a blow at both.

Now that it is settled and dying down, I’m taking away that self-publishing has to be looked at as a business. Things can get ugly and real fast. Caution and research is always the best road to take in my opinion. Maybe people will look back at this time of history as the early days of the internet and how things were establishing. We’ll be able to say, we were there making history.

More Strange Activity on Amazon Affecting Authors and Customers

So, the last week of March, there was an activity that happened to a lot of erotica and erotic romance authors having their books shadow-banned on Amazon. This was the action of putting titles into different categories and not having them show up in a general search or the store. Eventually, some answers came out that it was a “mistake” and that the titles were being put back.

Now, more is coming out in regards to reviews. People, regular Amazon customers, are having their accounts removed from Amazon for having violated “Terms of Service (TOS)” that they received a free product or gift card to do a positive review. Secret groups have formed on Facebook and Twitter to discuss what happened. Many former customers on Amazon are using the tag #amazonclosed to discuss how many don’t know why their accounts were closed or how maybe writing positive reviews for a free gift or gift card might have backfired on them. There is even speculation that it is Russia hacking Amazon and closing accounts.

Then, this last week starting in the beginning of April, authors have noticed hundreds to thousands of pages reads being taken out of their March Kindle Unlimited reports. According to a Kboards.com thread,  many of the authors have noticed a drop over the last week. The speculation is that it could be from the shadow-banning of the erotica, that made many other titles much more noticeable the last week of March. Or it could be because of the recently closed accounts, and they are deleting the reads for all of the accounts.

Who can say what it truly is, but Amazon itself. What has been disclosed by Amazon are new law suits filed this week a UK book stuffer on April 5. Book stuffers make up bogus books using previously published book material or sometimes just gibberish, to get clicks and reads. But often, they use “bots” and click farms to manipulate KU page reads and rob Amazon and legitimate authors of hard earned cash from the program. They also tend to rank high and get reads from unsuspecting readers that think they are a legitimate book.

Many authors and I’m sure readers will be happy to see these scammers finally going down. I know there has been a calling to clean up KU for years, and it seems to finally be happening. But there is a lot of fall out, of legitimate customers and authors, losing accounts or pages. This always seems to happen. It’s hard to know who has been playing by the rules and who has not. And to make it more difficult, scammers sometimes have picked legitimate authors to focus their bots on and buy reads to make them look more legitimate. There have been reports of some authors having this happen to them.

So, it might be that finally Amazon is going after the book stuffing scammers that have plagued Kindle Unlimited for years. And it might be also some back lash of still going after reviewers that still receive gift cards and free products to do positive reviews on Amazon. Of course, it’s a private website and all reviews belong to Amazon when you write them. But because of this backlash, I have noticed a real fall out of people wanting to review for Amazon anymore.

Most people have been leaving reviews on Goodreads these days for my books, and just not bothering with Amazon anymore. Plus, Kindles tend to direct you to the Goodreads site to review when you finish a book. I know, I’ve started reviewing more when I’m done with a book on my Kindle on Goodreads, and not even bothering to review on Amazon. Though, the email prompts will get me to motivate these days and write a quick review of a book I’ve read on Amazon these days.

So, it was surprising to me to hear there were still people leaving reviews for gift cards and free products still. The Zon also has the right to regulate its own website, which in some cases, is welcomed to get rid of the scammers. But in true Zon fashion, the nuclear option does sweep up some innocent bystanders. Reading tweets about how people will not be able to buy things for Easter or other means just shows how much power Amazon has over our lives now.
